Beatles Fans Fight To Save Ringo Starr's Childhood Home
A group of Beatles fans are fighting to save Ringo Starr's childhood home. BBC News reports that a group has emerged to protest the demolition of the modest Liverpool home that Starr -- whose real name is Richard Starkey -- was born in over 70 years ago. The campaign is called "Save Madryn Street" in honor of the dwelling's address at nine Madryn Street in the Liverpool neighborhood of Toxteth. The house is just one of hundreds that are scheduled for destruction in the area. Phil Coppell, one of the founders of Save Madryn Street, comments, quote, "We are going to fight tooth and nail in Liverpool, and around the world, to call a halt to this crazy decision to demolish Madryn Street." Coppell added that the homes of former Beatles -- Paul McCartney and John Lennon -- have received protective status and that Starr's should, too.
