Rob Thomas Predicts New Record Next Year For Matchbox 20
Matchbox 20 is currently working on their next album. That's according to the band's frontman, Rob Thomas, who talked about a new record while backstage at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Monday night. Thomas says there's no specific direction in mind for the record. Thomas predicts the band will put out a new release next year since they are writing songs right now. The singer also says he's working once again with guitarist Carlos Santana on a project. The pair had a huge hit with their song, "Smooth," in 1999. Thomas also jokes that he'd like to work with Rock Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen -- except Bruce just won't take his call. He also mentions that he is currently writing with rapper Common. Thomas says, quote, "When I'm writing with other people, I like to write with hip-hop guys and Latin guys and country guys. Because then when I sit back and go back to my own blank page, I feel like it kind of widens out what that song's going to be."
