Mindy McCready Opens Up About Her Addiction Battle On "The View
Mindy McCready says she's still working to get her life back on track. The singer was among the guests on ABC's "The View" Wednesday for an episode focused on women and addiction. McCready admitted that she's struggled with sobriety for many years. Noting her life has included, quote, "one bad relationship after another, whether it be a record company relationship or with a man," she confessed, quote, "when there would be some kind of crisis or some kind of painful thing would happen to me, it was readily available to go and drink too much."
McCready credits her son Zander -- and losing custody of him -- for motivating her to get help. She said Zander, who'll turn four next Thursday, was 15-months old when she was sent to jail and had to give him up. She still hasn't regained custody of him. McCready's latest recovery effort has been televised. She's among the stars on the current season of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," along with with actors Tom Sizemore and Mackenzie Phillips, former basketball star Dennis Rodman, and others. McCready noted that she developed a friendship with Phillips, and added that she was "a big help." McCready is also hoping to make a musical comeback. She has a new album on the way. "I'm Still Here," her first studio release in eight years will be in stores on Tuesday.
In her career McCready has lost two recording deals, while her personal dramas have included an alleged affair with baseball great Roger Clemens that she said started when she was a teenager. There was also a volatile relationship with an abusive boyfriend who was once arrested for attempted murder after attacking her. McCready herself has five arrests on her record, and more than one stint in jail. The singer has also tried to take her own life on three occasions. |
