Kurt Russell Elvis Biopic Now On DVD
One of the first and most widely-watched Elvis Presley biopics is now on video. Starring Kurt Russell as the King, the made-for-TV movie drew high ratings when it aired on ABC in February 1979. Russell earned an Emmy nomination for his performance. Shelly Winters, Pat Hingle, and Ellen Travolta co-starred in the small screen feature directed by John Carpenter of "Halloween" fame. Among the bonus features on the DVD is a special episode of "American Bandstand" dedicated to Presley. During the episode, "Bandstand" host Dick Clark observes, quote, "He was one of twins, his brother did not survive. And can you imagine if there had been two men who looked like Elvis Presley walking the face of the Earth?"
The DVD release this year arrives during a milestone year for Presley fans. Had Elvis lived, he would have celebrated his 75th birthday this year. |
