David Chase To Direct 1960s-Era Music Movie
The man behind HBO's "The Sopranos" is creating a project heavy on music for the big screen. Deadline.com reports that David Chase will direct a film about the formation of a rock band in the 1960s. Chase is slated to begin work on the film in late summer or early fall for Paramount. Although the subject matter is a departure for the Emmy-winner, Chase frequently cited music as an integral component to the success of "The Sopranos." The series about mafia life in New Jersey featured songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Otis Redding, Elvis Costello, and The Rolling Stones during its run. Its final episode -- titled "Made In America" -- used Journey's "Don't Stop (Believin)" to iconic effect as the screen abruptly went dark, leaving fans to search the song's lyrics for meaning.
