In 1980 Blondie's single "Call Me" broke into the Top 40 chart. In 1984 Special AKA released the single "Free Nelson Mandella." The Scorpions' album "Blackout" was certified Platinum, and the album "Animal Magnetism" was certified Gold. In 1988 Depeche Mode's album "Music for the Masses" was certified Gold. In 1994 Nirvana's Kurt Cobain was released from a Rome hospital four days after lapsing into what was said to have been an accidental drug-induced coma. Aerosmith was named the favorite rock band at the People's Choice Awards. Soundgarden released the album "Superunknown." The Black Crowes album "Shake Your Money Maker" was certified multi-Platinum, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers video "Funky Monks" and New Order's album "Republic" were certified Gold. In 1996 Smashing Pumpkins album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" was certified multi-Platinum. In 2001 Courtney Love announced that she was forming the new group Bastard, which also featured former Veruca Salt frontwoman Louise Post, former Hole drummer Patty Schemel, and Rockit Girl bassist Gina Crosley. In 2006 At Scott Stapp's arraignment, stemming from an arrest for public intoxication, the singer learned that he would not be charged. The incident occurred two weeks earlier at Los Angeles International Airport when he was waiting to board a plane to Hawaii. Naked photos of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz began surfacing on the Internet. In 2009 Metallica frontman James Hetfield was hospitalized in Stockholm, Sweden just before the band was slated to perform. He was suffering from dehydration caused by a stomach ailment.
