Dramatics Founder Ron Banks Passes Away
Ron Banks -- founder of the R&B group The Dramatics -- is dead. According to "The Detroit Free Press," Billy Wilson, president of the Motown Alumni Association, said Banks died Thursday of a possible heart attack. He was 58. Banks founded The Dramatics in the 1960s while still a student at Northern High School in Detroit, Michigan. Regarding Banks, Wilson said, quote, "You know, people who have been in the business awhile can be cocky and arrogant. But he stayed beautiful, always. Even during the tense moments in the group's career, he just remained cool and calm." The Dramatics' breakout single was the 1971-hit "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get." The group performed live throughout the country since its formation with the exception of a brief hiatus in the 1980s.
