ZooBlooms Blossoms  
 
Find out what’s growin’ on in Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s beautiful gardens this summer during the annual ZooBlooms event on Sunday, July 19. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with special activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ZooBlooms showcases the Zoo’s 168 acres of plants and flowers from around the world. Highlights include a guided tour, a ladybug release, eco-friendly crafts, composting demonstrations and seminars to help green-thumbs with their own backyard gardens.

In conjunction with the Zoo’s DINOSAURS! exhibit, ZooBlooms focuses on living fossils, including the many prehistoric plants that surround Tyrannosaurus rex and company alongside the Zoo’s Waterfowl Lake. Here’s the full schedule for ZooBlooms:

11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Tram tours of the Zoo’s gardens with Manager of Zoo Horticulture Don Krock. Includes Prehistoric Plant Garden.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Eco-friendly activities including leaf etching, a prehistoric plant scavenger hunt and chances to make seed bracelets, birdhouses, plant imprints and paper pots to take home.

1 p.m.
“Put Modern Organics to Work in Your Garden,” a presentation by Dan Norris of Good Nature Organic Lawn Care.

1:30 p.m.
“Meet the Butterfly Keeper” at the tropical FLUTTER! exhibit inside the Public Greenhouse.

2 p.m.
“Recycling and Composting at Home” – tips from Nancy Hughes, the Zoo’s Recycling and Composting Coordinator.

2:30 p.m.
“The History of the Zoo’s Prehistoric Plant Gardens,” an overview by Zoo Horticulturist Kevin Mackin.

3 p.m.
“Landscaping with Living Fossils,” a discussion of modern-day plants with prehistoric roots by Don Krock, Manager of Zoo Horticulture, featuring magnolias, conifers, spicebush and ferns.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with extended summer weekend hours. Admission is $10 per person, $7 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children under 2 and Zoo members.
